SHAC is a one-stop health service available to all currently enrolled UNM students. SHAC is committed to treating patients with respect, consideration, and dignity. SHAC is funded in part by student activity fees. SHAC is located on Main Campus just north of Johnson Center and across the mall from the Student Union Bldg. Services include: medical appointments (same-day and advanced), pharmacy, women's and men's health, allergy and immunization, medical specialty clinics, physical therapy, lab and x-ray, travel health clinic, counseling services, health education and prevention, and a student health advisory council. Students are not required to have health insurance to be seen at SHAC. However, SHAC recommends that students have insurance to help defray healthcare costs. SHAC accepts most insurance plans.  Fees charged at SHAC are much lower than community rates. To schedule a medical or counseling appointment, call 277-3136. Counseling

The purpose of SHAC Counseling Services is to provide UNM students with psychological services that will help them function successfully in their academic lives. Counseling Services is staffed by licensed Clinical Counselors, Psychologists, Social Workers, and Psychiatrists. Services include: assessment; short-term individual therapy; crisis intervention; emergency assessment and intervention; psychiatric medication evaluation and follow-up; AD/HD treatment evaluation; and referral for students needing services beyond SHAC’s scope or capacity. Fees are charged for clinical services; however, there is no charge for the first two counseling sessions. Dental Services (505-272-4106) Novitski Hall, north campus. 
The Division of Dental Hygiene provides low-cost dental services with special discounts to UNM students. Services performed by dental hygiene students under the direct supervision of faculty include teeth cleanings, x-rays, sealants, periodontal surgery, mouth guards, and teeth bleaching. Appointments can be made for restorative work by licensed dentists. Appointments are required and clinic hours vary on weekdays.

Health Education
Campus Office of Substance Abuse Prevention - COSAP (505-277-2795), Mesa Vista Hall, 3059.
COSAP offers training and coordination of substance abuse prevention for the campus community.  It also develops and reviews campus policies related to alcohol, tobacco, and other drug abuse.

Health Education services include a variety of health resources, educational materials, and workshops available to students at no charge. Programs include: Condom-Mint (free condoms and mints at multiple sites on Main Campus); and S.H.A.C. Healthy Weight (group and individual support from a personal coordinator, nutritionist, and personal trainer). For information, call 277-1074.

Massage Therapy Services (505-277-3136), Student Health and Counseling Bldg, 2nd Fl.
Licensed massage therapists offer a variety of modalities including deep and therapeutic massage, Swedish, polarity, cranial sacral, sports, massage stretches, and myofascial release. Students, staff, faculty, and retirees can schedule a one-hour session by calling to make an appointment.

Pharmacy (505-277-6306), Student Health and Counseling Bldg, 2nd floor, rm 206.
The SHAC pharmacy offers prescription service for UNM students, faculty, staff, and retirees. A valid UNM ID or schedule is required. Prescriptions from any licensed health practitioner can be filled. The pharmacy stocks most prescription drugs and can special-order medications within 24 hours that are not routinely stocked. The pharmacy also provides education and counseling on proper drug use, interactions, and side-effects. The pharmacy offers many reasonably-priced, over-the-counter items such as orthopedic braces, lotions, sunscreens, cold and allergy medications, contraceptives, etc. The SHAC Pharmacy is a prescription provider for many insurance plans. An insurance card must be shown at the time of service.  Payment can be made by check, cash, debit card, MasterCard, Visa, or by charging to a student account.
